Weekly update from the South Yardley Neighbourhood policing team.
Dear Members,
Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team.
What’s been happening:
Neighbourhood officers are still under high demand from across the board. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes our communities with not seeing us. We are still aiming to attend meetings were possible and these are displayed on our home page and our Engagement Tracker on WMNow. Let us know what you want us to be involved in and we will do our best to be there!
Did you see us at the Swan shopping Centre on 3rd July or at the Acock’s Green Village? As part of the partnership day we were joined by Acock’s Green neighbourhood and Stechford Neighbourhood conducting a day of action in the main two areas suffering with various issues. The day was split into two with the morning spent at the Swan and surrounding and the afternoon in Acock’s Green. Numerous arrests, CPWs issued to those begging or in a position to beg, residents informed of the activity with door knocks to talk about their concerns and issues from the tower blocks. Shops supported with visibility presence to deter any offenders from the locations, providing everyone with a voice and time to raise their individual concerns to their local sergeants. There was a range of partner agencies involved from the council, housing, DVLA, traffic units and our off roaders to support with the day and members of public.
Off Roaders whilst they were with us on 3rd they were able to secure 2 arrests and 2 bikes seized as a result of the support they provided on the partnership day. Other local traffic officers where in the area to support with other vehicle related offences.
Officers were also able to attend to a Community event at the St Cyprian’s Memorial Hall, where various community groups and activities were held to come together and share key information. This had a huge turn out and we were able to take our vehicle and share photographs with the communities we serve and how we can work together going forward. These are held every 3 months and we will be looking forward to the next. Once details have been obtained we will share.
We are still awaiting our new restructure soon and results for this will be shared once confirmed and we are expecting this to take place in the coming weeks. Stay tuned on this as it will be important information for you all. Keep an eye out on our main web page. (detail below).
One of our officers also set up a dog input at Archbishop Ilsley Secondary School involving our tactical dog unit show casing their skills as PD’s and trainers on how the dogs operate during a training and live crime session. This involved our dog unit on an outdoor fenced sports area where 500 children were able to spectate around the fencing lines to see how our PDs work. This has been recorded and this recording will now have the potential to be rolled out to other schools for children to see how our dog’s unit work in aid to prevent those under the age of 18 from a life of crime.
Our Schools liaison officer has also been organising an assembly at Ark Victoria Academy to 130 Year 8's about Radicalisation/Exploitation/THC/Vapes. Weapon sweeps had taken place inside and outside school.
Our PCSO’s have been conducting speed watch operations on various residential roads that are reporting concerns around speeding or those using one-way streets to avoid queuing in traffic causing other issues for residents and other vehicles. Any vehicles driving in antisocial behaviour can be sent in to our Operation Snap who will insist on ticketing those making our roads unsafe and we will do all we can from Neighbourhood to also issue other documents to support in the reduction of this crime.
Empowered Steps will be back on the 27th July at 10:30 in Oaklands park. We hope to see all women representative of our community to come along and begin a journey to feel safe to walk the streets once again alongside us. Share your concerns, issues and dive deep into the everyday challenge’s women face. Meeting point will be by the Skate Park.
Lastly, in the next week schools will be beginning to break up for their summer break for 6 weeks. During this time, we see various crimes escalate and we urge anyone that is a victim or witness to a crime to report this to our call centre. Whilst that may be the case, we also want you all during this time, for you and your families have a wonderful and safe summer month sharing and creating many memories to last.
